Királyudvar, ‘King’s Court’, was for centuries a royal site that supplied Imperial wines to the Hapsburgs. It was purchased in 1997 by Anthony Hwang, owner of renowned Vouvray estate Domaine Huet. He and Noel Pinguet, his Loire winemaker, have rebuilt the 16th Century chateau, rehabilitated the vineyards and converted the entire estate to biodynamics. The winemaking has been a proving ground for modern Hungarian masters Istvan Szepsy and Zoltan Demeter and is now managed by Zoltan’s protégé Szabolcs Juhász. Considering the size of the estate, production is tiny due to extremely rigorous vineyard selection. The old royal cellars, with their high, vaulted ceilings, offer a unique storage climate.
